This week's Net Picks highlights a few of the artists I follow on Instagram. The common thread amongst all these artists is that they post a lot of work in pen and ink. Each has their own very distinct style that really sets their work apart.Read More
This week's Net Picks showcase a variety of fun and beautiful renditions of woodland creatures. I'm not sure if it's just a trending theme right now or has always been popular, but either way, I love it and hope it's here to stay!Read More
Sorry for the inconsistency of my blog posting recently. I've actually been pretty busy with client work (which you can never really complain about). Working on paid work is great but has presented me with a conumdrum. I enjoy sharing my work via my blog and social media accounts, but with paid work you usually have to sign a confidentiality agreement (thus no real posts about such work).Read More
I really enjoy finding wonderful art via Pinterest. I try my best to always pin to the post source (if from a blog) or directly from an artist's site. It's often frustrating when you want to learn more about a piece and you find that the pinner pinned to the blog home and not necessarily the post that had the original image/content you are looking for. This week's Net Picks showcase a few wonderfully illustrated animal characters. I always find it amazing how people can infuse so much character and style into animals in their illustrations!Read More
I am in love with the look of hand drawn calligraphy and lettering. It's a skill I've never really been able to do well so I appreciate and respect the artists that have the talent. Here are a few calligraphers I follow on Instagram:Read More
Sorry for the lack of Net Picks posts! It's been a crazy month so far! Today I wanted to showcase some of the wonderful artists I follow on Instagram.
- @heikala - There is a lovely gentleness to heikala's work. Her use of watercolors is so lovely (and impressive).
- @thousandskies aka Elda The- I've followed Elda's work for years (originally on deviant art!). I love her Instagram because she shares a great deal of progress and behind the scenes shots. She shares a lot of sketches, painting videos and crafts.
- @danhipp - Dan's Instagram feed is a treasure trove of his renditions of many current pop culture characters. I hate to admit that I discovered him because he art directs my daughter's favorite cartoon (Teen Titans) but better late than never!
- @lady_tea aka Trudi Castle - Trudi's work is totally my cup of tea! I love concept art, RPGs and fantasy and her work pretty much sums this all up. Her characters and environments are super engaging and I can't stop looking at her hand drawn sketches.
Although I follow a lot of terrific artists on Instagram, I really like how these 4 showcase hand drawn and hand painted work. I work mainly digitally (although was trained in traditional medium) and I really enjoy seeing people creating with good old pencils, pens and paints.

This week was fun! The patterns were a mix of some brand new and some older elements. I'm happy I was able to experiment a little with techniques.Read More
