WIP Wednesday

Today is a quick post of a new portfolio piece I'm working on. I wanted to do something a little different, more fanciful than my last portfolio piece. Here is an initial rough sketch of my idea.

I wanted to do a piece that is more geared towards boys. I love creating fun characters so I had fun designing these scurvy sea dogs!

As with most my pieces, I import the scanned sketch into Illustrator and start to flesh it out in vectors.

Although I don't mind this stage, it's probably my least favorite part of illustrating. I find my favorite parts sketching out the ideas and the more final part, painting and adding textures in Photoshop.

Currently this is the stage my illustration is stuck. This week has been surprisingly busy with my daughter's Fall break being in session (like spring break but in October). I've been able to sneak in some work but for the most part I've been running around all week doing errands and taking advantage of having my mom visiting (and watching my daughter). I'm looking forward to this weekend when my sister and her family fly in tomorrow. We'll be doing some fun things with the kids.
