Growing up in Hawaii I never really felt a career in art was possible. This is my first locally published book and very near and dear to my heart. I am thankful for each and every project that comes my way but this book was the first that I've actually seen in stores so it's extra exciting!Read More
I've been a little obsessed with Matryoshkas (Russian nesting dolls) for a long time. My mom has a pretty large one (about 12 inches tall) and I remember having so much fun taking them all apart (it had quite a bit nesting in there).
This past summer I participated in the 100 Day Project on Instagram where I attempted to create a new piece every day for 100 days (I say attempted because I think I took 105 days to complete). My theme was cats and during that project I created these cute little kitty matryoshka characters. I recently went back and retooled them a little and created a pattern collection.Read More
I love cute! I think that's why I decided to focus my illustration work towards the children's market. It's wonderful that there is so much variety nowadays for kids and adults alike that feature cute and cuddly characters!
This week's featured artist's all have delightfully cute styles!Read More
I actually am juggling a few job related things (that I sadly cannot share) so I thought I'd share a personal project I'll be working on as time becomes available. I have always been attracted to surface and pattern design. Even when I was little, I believe I was unconciously drawn to print and pattern because I really enjoyed looking at lovely packaging, stationery and greeting cards. I used to hoard my favorite cards I received on birthdays and holidays in a box. I still do keep our kids cards now.
This personal project I'm creating is a surface design collection. I've taken a few Skillshare classes (list below) to help me learn and understand what it takes to get into surface design.Read More
I really lament the decease of the Borders Books chain of stores. They were my sole source of Seattle's Best coffee shops and Paperchase stationery goods. I know that I could order online but I love looking at things in person, flipping through the notebooks or checking out the finishing of a box. Here are a few lovely items I've been adoring on Paperchase's site:
- Nordic Nights Correspondence Set
- Owl Crowd Pencil Case
- Owl Crowd Notebook Set
- Woodland Exercise Book
Aw, it makes me so sad to see the bountiful cute and lovely stationery on Paperchase's site! I'm crossing fingers that one day I'll be able to design something for this brand!
Remember these guys? Well, they have a few new friends joining the treasure hunt.
I've finally fleshed out all the elements in Adobe Illustrator (CS6) and have moved everything into Photoshop. I really enjoy working in Photoshop because it's closer to working traditionally.Read More
