Net Picks - Artists on Instagram

Sorry for the lack of Net Picks posts! It's been a crazy month so far! Today I wanted to showcase some of the wonderful artists I follow on Instagram.

  1. @heikala - There is a lovely gentleness to heikala's work. Her use of watercolors is so lovely (and impressive).
  2. @thousandskies  aka Elda The- I've followed Elda's work for years (originally on deviant art!). I love her Instagram because she shares a great deal of progress and behind the scenes shots. She shares a lot of sketches, painting videos and crafts.
  3. @danhipp - Dan's Instagram feed is a treasure trove of his renditions of many current pop culture characters. I hate to admit that I discovered him because he art directs my daughter's favorite cartoon (Teen Titans) but better late than never!
  4. @lady_tea aka Trudi Castle - Trudi's work is totally my cup of tea! I love concept art, RPGs and fantasy and her work pretty much sums this all up. Her characters and environments are super engaging and I can't stop looking at her hand drawn sketches.

Although I follow a lot of terrific artists on Instagram, I really like how these 4 showcase hand drawn and hand painted work. I work mainly digitally (although was trained in traditional medium) and I really enjoy seeing people creating with good old pencils, pens and paints.

It's always hard to imagine how the actual product will look without actually purchasing but these look so nice! Take advantage of the semi-transparent cases that are available for iPhones! Not sure if they are also available for other makes and models but they look so cool when you can see your phone coming through the back.

Net Picks - Instagram Pattern Makers

Today I've decided to highlight a few of my favorite Instagrammers, specifically a few that are illustrators that do pattern design. I figure that since I've decided to challenge myself to a month of creating daily patterns it would be fitting to share some great pattern makers I enjoy following. wonderful pattern designers on Instagram

  1. Cathy Westrell Nordström @studiolillaform -  Cathy is a surface pattern designer & illustrator from Stockholm. I love her flora and fauna designs along with her beautiful gentle color palettes. Follow her on Instagram and also check out her website.
  2. Bethan Janine @bethanjanine - Bethan is a pattern designer and illustrator from Sheffield, UK. You can find her book Art, Inc.: The Essential Guide for Building Your Career as an Artist on Amazon.com. I do have a copy and it's a great read! Follow her on Instagram and also check out her website.
  5. Anke @ankepanke - Anke is a Dutch designer. She specializes in illustration, design, hand lettering, identities amongst other things (a very diverse talent)! I love her Instagram feed because not only are her posts really cute, there is a lot of variety (vector patterns, hand drawn lettering, black and white coloring book style).  Follow her on Instagram and also check out her website.
  6. Elizabeth Olwen @elizabetholwen - Elizabeth is a surface designer from Toronto. She is amazing! I love how she has created so many patterns but her style is very distinct and recognizable. I love how she also shares her wealth of knowledge and experience through her courses on Skillshare. I've taken her first course Pattern Design I: Creating Inspiring Repeats and found it inspiring. Follow her on Instagram and also check out her website.

To be honest, I follow so many great artists and designers on Instagram and I still feel I haven't discovered even a fraction of them yet! Please feel fee to share any great illustrators or designers you follow and I'll be sure to check them out!
